Yoga

For me, yoga is above all about presence, and arriving in the moment through the body. I believe that it is only through the senses and truly inhabiting the body that it is truly possible to be present in this moment.

Sometimes it feels relaxing, soft and nurturing. At other times it can bring strength, energy and a sense of achievement. Sometimes it also brings us face to face with uncomfortable sides of ourselves. Maybe we notice something that has perhaps been forgotten, what needs to be felt and what we need to sit with.

My aim is to hold space with acceptance, to support every individual to hold space for themselves. There is room for everything.

My first yoga training took place in 2017 in a Hatha yoga school in India (200RYT), focused on body alignment. This was followed by additional trainings in Yin Yoga, Embodied Yin Yoga and aerial yoga. Before training, my personal practice background was in Ashtanga, Hatha and Yin Yoga.

In yoga teaching, instead of encouraging a “perfect asana”, my emphasis is on listening to the body, observing the inner experience and being present with whatever is felt. At the same time, support is of course given in the alignment of asanas, in practising them safely and in finding suitable variations.

What matters most, however, is that yoga can be approached exactly as one is on that particular day. It offers a chance to pause with oneself, without competition, expectations or performance. The intention is to hold a safe space where everyone is welcome just as they are.

I teach a wide range of Yoga styles, from gentle Yin Yoga to more dynamic Flow or Vinyasa Flow practices, Hatha, and special classes for holidays and celebrations.

Yin Yoga is calm, restorative and soothing for the nervous system and Fascia. It is a gentle form of yoga based on traditional Chinese medicine. Poses are held for several minutes, softening into them with the support of gravity and the breath.

Flow-style yoga is more dynamic, moving from one pose to another in rhythm with the breath. There are always options offered: yoga is meant to feel good, so that it is possible to let go of performance and be present in one’s own body.

For years, wellbeing-at-work groups, special holiday classes, “men’s yoga” and other private sessions have been a large part of my job. Champagne yoga has been very popular in recent years. With joy and a playful twinkle in the eye, I have led many light-hearted celebratory Champagne yoga sessions in yoga studios, workplaces, parks, piers and on beaches.

I also teach pregnancy yoga, mama yoga and various types of fitness classes on a rotating basis.
